Classroom Troubleshooting
  • If you are having trouble with the classroom start below before contacting the teacher or Athena’s administration.
  • Most questions can be answered in the Athena’s Resources sections.
  • Please note, the classroom website does not have a public technical support contact.

Connected to the Classrooms

This section is for current students who want to reduce the number of emails they receive. For more options, navigate to Classroom Support–>Profile & Email Preferences.

  • Do not mark Athena’s emails as spam. Simply change the user’s preferences. Marking an email from Athena’s as spam sends a notice to the email servers which spreads to everyone else’s servers. Marking Athena’s emails as spam will then downgrade Athena’s emails in everyone else’s email readers. Instead, change your email preferences.
  • Step 1: Watch the video below.
  • Step 2: Set your Forum Preferences. Return to the Forum & Email Preferences section for more details on how to set email preferences. Pay careful attention to the information on Digest Mode.

Video Overview:
Please note that this video is only an overview. Refer to the Forum & Email Preferences sections for details.

Within the Classrooms

  • Although the webinar recordings post automatically, opening the weekly classroom assignments is done manually by instructors.
  • Sometimes instructors are not able to get to the classrooms right after the webinar, especially if they are teaching another webinar right away or if they have to travel for a conference.
  • If you do not see the new week’s assignments 4 hours after the webinar, please email and alert your instructor to the problem. Look in the Tips & Tricks section on how to email your instructor.
  • At the beginning of the year, teachers go through the information in the classroom to make sure the links are working. But the Internet is ever-changing, so sometimes students will find a link that doesn’t work.
  • If a link that leads to a website or video that is not working is found, please email the instructor right away. Remember to include the title of the link and what classroom it is in!

Students may need adult assistance to do the following.

  • Look through the information about the forums, especially the information about the Q & A Forums.
  • If you are trying to copy and paste your information into a forum, be sure you do not have any emojis in your document. Remove the emojis and try again. Find out more in the Copying & Pasting troubleshooting section.

If you are working in a word processing document on your computer and want to copy & paste your work into the classroom interface, you may notice that it does not work. You may need parental assistance to do the following.

  1. Return to your word processing document.
  2. Check to see if you have any emojis included in your document.
    1. If you have emojis in your document, do one of the following:
      1. Remove all emojis from your document and try again. Moodle (the software that our classrooms are built around) has its own emoji system and cannot read other emoji codes.
      2. Save your document as a PDF and upload your PDF document to the classroom.
    2. If you do not have emojis in your document:
      1. Check your file size (the amount of text you would like to place in the field).
      2. If the amount is too large, consider separating it into two posts or saving your document as a PDF and uploading it to the classroom.
  3. If you have checked for emojis and size, but the problem persists:
    1. Return to the Forums section.
    2. Look through the information, especially the information about the Q & A Forums.
    3. If you have kept in mind everything that is written there and are still having a problem, please contact your teacher.

If your file is too big to upload, try the following:

  • Use a website such as https://imagy.app/resize-image-to-500kb to resize your file.
  • Resize it using a program on your computer.
  • Take a screenshot of the file and upload the screenshot.
  • Take a photo of the file and upload the photo.
